The Texas A&M Natural Resources Institute (NRI) seeks applications for a Research Technician positions at Joint Base San Antonio – Camp Bullis. Research Technicians help plan, coordinate and support control strategies, surveys, assessments, monthly and quarterly reports, and ensure quality and quantity of work being performed is at a high level. Coordinate with TAMU NRI leadership regularly on project status and generate reports as needed. The Research Technician, under general supervision performs entry level, semi-skilled, technical support research work involving performance of routine tasks. Experience with invasive species, threatened and endangered (T&E) species, outdoor recreation, depredation, and database management. Ability to work cooperatively with wildlife professionals, state and federal personnel, and faculty of Texas A&M University, Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Service. Requirements: • Collects samples and measurement data from experiments. • Implements and maintains data collection and summarization of field trials. • Collects and compiles data. Computes quantitates and extends projections. • Positive attitude in adverse environmental conditions such as fire ants, chiggers, rattlesnakes, feral pigs, poison ivy, daily temperatures of over 90°F or below 40°F, thorny brush, and rugged terrain, • Assembles and operates technical equipment. • Flexibility to changes in protocol or job assignments. • Assists senior staff members in conducting major field experiments and consults in developing procedures. • Work is completed on an active military installation: must have a valid driver’s license and pass pre-employment background check. • Maintain fleet vehicle records and maintenance as needed. • Performs other duties as assigned. • Will require working weekends.
Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years of related experience. Preferred Education: Bachelor’s Degree in natural resources related field (e.g., Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences, Ecosystem Science and Management, or Environmental Science) or closely related discipline. Ability to exert heavy force. Must be a self-starter and complete objectives in a timely manner. Must have strong networking skills. Must be in good physical condition and ability to work outdoors in rough terrain and inclement weather. Capable of lifting 50 lbs as the job may require long hours or work outdoors involving hiking, bending, lifting etc., and working beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends.
