Broadly, the Livestock and Range Research Laboratory works to support productive and sustainable use of grazing resources in the Northern Great Plains and contribute to knowledge of rangeland ecosystems worldwide. More specifically, this position will support ongoing fire ecology research and contribute to new projects that aim to understand rangeland fuels, fire behavior, and fire effects within the context of working rangeland landscapes affected by global change.
Competitive applicants will have experience conducting, designing, and leading field and greenhouse research. Proficiency in programming with R, Python, etc is highly desired, as is experience with dataloggers and environmental sensors. As the technician will be required to maintain and operate equipment and machinery related to wildland fire and support prescribed fire operations, experience and training in wildland fire is highly desired. It is essential that the technician be capable of working both independently and as part of a collaborative team of scientists and other technicians.
