The selected candidate will serve as a resource stewardship assistant operating across a variety of Missouri State Parks in eastern Missouri. The selected candidate(s) will have the opportunity to be trained in and assist with a variety of natural resource stewardship techniques including chainsaw use, glade restoration, woodland restoration, prescribed fire, fireline construction, invasive plant control and feral hog mitigation. Duties will also include a strong emphasis in field ecology work with opportunities including botanical survey projects, bird surveys, and natural community mapping, and assisting with various ecology related workshops.
A strong interest in furthering you knowledge in natural resource management and ecology with the goal of working toward a career in Natural Resource management. (Botany, Ecology, Wildlife, Forestry, or related field). Ability to: Physically and safely operate power equipment including chainsaws, brush saws, backpack blowers and ATV/UTV’s. Capable of properly handling and applying herbicides in a variety of methods- Must possess valid driver’s license - Must be willing to accept occasional overnight travel in remote localities - Endure challenging field conditions including hot/cold temperatures, rain, and snow - Negotiate rugged terrain of the Missouri Ozarks - Demonstrate a professional attitude and a passion for natural resource stewardship work.
