CITY OF COLORADO SPRINGS invites applications for the position of: SEASONAL - Resource Technician SALARY: $12.00 - $15.00 Hourly DEPARTMENT: Parks, Rec & Cultural Svc OPENING DATE: 09/08/17 CLOSING DATE: 09/22/17 11:59 PM FLSA: Non-exempt position DESCRIPTION / POSITION OVERVIEW: This is a seasonal (at-will) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker's Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees' Retirement Association). Dates of employment will be October through March. Normal work hours will vary depending on department needs and will include various weekday and weekend shifts, with hours between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Total hours worked not to exceed 1,500 annually. Resource Technician In this multi-faceted position, you will work in a variety of roles, including performing trail work and maintenance, resource and safety patrols, biological surveys, and public outreach. Essential Job Functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform: -Assist with snow removal on park property (parking lots, sidewalks, roadways, and regional trails). -Monitor park boundaries for encroachments, unauthorized entry points, and fencing needs. -Maintain fencing; install new fencing as needed. -Check signs for accuracy, damage, and fading; replace or clean as needed. -Clear and maintain parking areas as needed. -Collect data on trail conditions utilizing GPS; analyze using GIS. -Participate in trail construction, improvement, and restoration. -Prepare reports on resource issues, visitor surveys, and other park projects. -Report, document, and clean graffiti and other vandalism. -Pick up litter and report suspicious items; clean restrooms; and empty waste receptacles. -Report evidence of unauthorized camping and remove items as directed by supervisor. -Assist visitors by providing aid or answering questions. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate: -Knowledge of GPS and GIS. -Ability to communicate and interact with volunteers and the public. -Ability to safely operate equipment such as trucks, snow plows, tractors, mowers and string trimmers, and various hand and power tools. Successful candidate will: -Be at least 18 years of age. -Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license Ideal candidates will also demonstrate: -Landscape, maintenance, or construction experience. -Experience using GPS units and software. -Experience with mechanized equipment, including mowers, tractors, snow plows, and skid steers. Qualifications
