MISSION STATEMENT: The mission of IRWP is to improve the integrity of the Illinois River Watershed through public education, community outreach, and implementation of conservation and restoration practices. IRWP OVERVIEW: IRWP is a seventeen-year-old non-profit organization that works to conserve and restore the Illinois River Watershed in Northwest Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma. The Board of Directors is composed of six stakeholder groups that are tasked with finding consensus-based solutions to fulfill the organization’s mission. The organization currently includes five staff, over $2M in program funding, and a 30-acre Watershed Sanctuary which serves as an outdoor classroom, office, and event space. RESTORATION SPECIALIST POSITION OVERVIEW: The Restoration Specialist will lead and coordinate aquatic and riparian restoration projects across the Illinois River Watershed. The Restoration Specialist will be an individual who is committed to improving the environment and views people, land use, and water resources as important to the history, culture, ecology, economics, and future of Northwest Arkansas and the Illinois River Watershed. Work will be performed under general direction of the IRWP Executive Director and program funding requirements. This position will be based in Cave Springs, Arkansas. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Conduct landowner outreach, identify riparian restoration opportunities, and implement conservation and restoration projects based on strategic priorities. • Develop landowner services agreements including project designs, timelines, and long-term maintenance, serving as project manager throughout the project implementation cycle. • Solicit, negotiate, and develop contracts with vendors for project design and implementation as needed. • Develop partnerships with other public and private partners leading and coordinating implementation of conservation and restoration projects throughout the watershed. • Represent IRWP and provide thought leadership on conservation best management practices. FUNCTIONS OF ALL STAFF: • Promotes IRWP, its mission, and membership (e.g., develop relationships with sponsors, ask businesses and people to become sponsors, speak as an ambassador of IRWP) • Serves as the primary lead for at least one River Clean-up each year • Actively seeks professional development opportunities and works to be the expert in field • Provides communications in a timely manner (within 1 week post-events and at least 4 weeks pre-events) to communications staff so that publicity can be created (e.g., press releases, communication stories, etc.) • Attends weekly staff meetings • Conducts weekly or bi-weekly meetings with his/her supervisor as needed • Attends Board Meetings • Respond to emails, voicemails, and all administrative duties with the same work-week COMPENSATION: This is a full-time salaried position. The proposed salary range is $48,000 to $55,000 but will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The following are included in the benefits package: health care insurance reimbursement, 120 hours personal time off, Simple IRA retirement plan with 2% employer contribution, and flexible work schedule. Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS • A bachelor’s degree or higher in Natural Resources, Landscape Architecture, Forestry, Environmental Science, Biology, Business or related with at least three years’ relevant work experience. • Knowledge of current trends and practices in conservation, land management, and natural resource preservation and have experiences explaining practices to technical and non-technical audiences. Familiarity with the region’s native species, natural stream restoration techniques, fluvial morphology, and/or floodplain management preferred. • Effective communication with individuals and groups in face-to-face, one-on-one settings, group settings, and penchant for building long-term landowner relationships. • Experience with basic computer applications such as Word, Excel, Office and PowerPoint. Experience with design software such as AutoCAD and GIS software a plus. Don't meet every single requirement?
