- NOTE: position will remain open until filled. Goal is to hire by May or June. No deadline. Recently, strong support has emerged to create a Shared Resources Restoration Team that will be available to conduct all manner of restoration activities primarily on the prairies around Olympia, Tenino and Rochester, Washington. This team will initially consist of a Project Manager, Specialist and two Technicians. They will integrate with partners that include Chehalis Tribe, WA Depts of F&W and Natural Resources, Center for Natural Lands Management and others. As other funding is established, this team is also expected to work closely with the Chehalis Tribe's expanding restoration team. This position will work closely with program partners and Ecostudies staff to implement priority projects. The Technician will be supported to gain specialized skills and knowledge to support the team. The Technician will regularly engage in project implementation including restoration and monitoring activities for habitats and rare species. We use an integrated and adaptive restoration approach that promotes learning and best practices in a regional collaborative context. This team is expected to become a core part of the region's prescribed fire capacity and team members will be given significant opportunities to learn and improve their fire skills. Prescribed fire, monitoring and restoration skill and training will be highly valued in a candidate for this position.
- Qualifications
- • Completion of or progress towards BA/BS/AS/Technical or vocational degree in science/natural resources-related field or at least three years natural resources or agriculture related experience. • Experience working with or knowledge of natural systems; ability to recognize plant and animal species as required to complete natural resource management activities. Knowledge of ecological land management principles. • Must obtain appropriate driver’s license, Washington State pesticide license, first aid, CPR, and NWCG firefighter type II certification. • Ability to operate various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g. backpack sprayer, chainsaw, tractor, two-way radio, etc) • Ability to follow instructions from colleagues • Ability to manage time and diverse activities under deadlines while delivering quality results • Ability to perform physical work, sometimes under adverse conditions or in inclement weather • Working knowledge of common software applications (e.g.; Word, Excel, Web browsers) and familiarity with ArcGIS and other database systems.
