Apply to be the Coastal Training Program Specialist with the Rookery Bay Research Reserve’s Coastal Training Program with Florida International University, placed at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in Naples, FL!  Located in Naples, Florida, the Rookery Bay Research Reserve is one of 30 National Estuarine Research Reserves around the country that focuses on research, education, stewardship and environmental- based training. Rookery Bay Research Reserve is a facility that is operated through a collaboration between Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and Florida International University, through which this position is contracted. This unique program provides science-based training to South Florida’s coastal decision-makers (state, regional and local government staff and officials, ecotour operators, real estate agents, stormwater managers, landscapers and more) and assists with meeting facilitation and communication. This position will assist the Training Program Coordinator to record education and training needs for diverse audiences, and to plan, coordinate, and conduct trainings, workshops, and events online and in-person. Duties: The Coastal Training Specialist works directly with the CTP Coordinator and program partners to coordinate activities within the network, develop workshops and trainings, and facilitate science translation. They will also conduct follow-up research regarding other training providers and potential audiences in the region; maintain the electronic mailing lists, electronic event registration, database, and email notification process and assist with the expansion of the CTP web presence and capability. Description: The Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (RB NERR) Coastal Training Program (CTP), contracted with Florida International University, provides up-to-date scientific information, skill building opportunities, and supports the creation and maintenance of collaborative networks for professionals whose work and decisions have impacts on coastal resources in SW Florida and specifically the Upper Everglades Watershed. The goal of CTP is to sustain ecosystem services provided by coastal resources through improved management and policy. Stakeholders of the network served by CTP include coastal managers; planners; local, state and federal government officials; elected officials; private industry; landscape professionals; watershed groups; citizen and community groups; and nonprofit organizations. The Coastal Training Program serves this network by developing and facilitating training and outreach programs to interpret and apply relevant science and technology to priority local issues and topics affecting coastal communities. CTP conducts needs assessments, to guide CTP and inform the program of which stakeholder groups have an interest of need for training, skill building, or workshops and provides advice and assessment of CTP in accordance with the RB NERR management plan. CTP designs and implements stakeholder processes to facilitate interdisciplinary approaches to ecosystem management. Qualifications
Qualifications (Basic, Preferred): Basic: High school diploma or GED required and five (5) years of experience in the area of responsibility, or a Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience in related field. Preferred: Preference given to applicants who meet the required qualifications and also possess the following: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Adept at public speaking and presenting information in a logical, clear, and concise manner. Demonstrated experience using a personal computer, office and communication related software such as MS Office, Zoom, FareHarbor, and Webpage management software. Ability to organize multi-faceted programs and events with special attention to detail. Ability to work independently as well as in teams. Knowledge of techniques to conduct needs assessments, evaluate education programs, develop and educational classes, maintain advertisements and electronic registration pages, and coordinate classes for professional natural resource managers. Experience delivering training related to natural resources in Florida. Knowledge in science communication and science translation for diverse audiences.
