A team of two (2) wildlife technicians will monitor sandhill cranes and assist with captures from July through mid-August 2021. Additional tasks may include habitat assessment and opportunities to assist with other Department efforts, including trumpeter swan and mourning dove projects. Technicians will travel across central Wyoming but will be stationed out of the Lander WGFD Regional Office. A shared camper will be provided for housing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
Monitoring of Sandhill Cranes –Identify breeding territories and Sandhill Cranes' roost sites in multiple locations across Central and Eastern Wyoming.
Capture of Sandhill Cranes –Assist with night spotlighting and capture of Sandhill Cranes at roost sites.
Habitat Assessment- Conduct monitoring of habitat projects across Wyoming using photo points and vegetation assessment protocols.
Preference will be given to applicants working toward or who have obtained an associate’s or bachelor's degree in wildlife management, ecology, biology, zoology, or a closely related field.
Preference will be given to applicants with prior bird handling and wetland habitat experience.
**Agency requires that the successful applicant possess a valid driver's license.
Knowledge of sandhill crane and other avian species’ behavior and identification.
Knowledge of wetland habitat assessment techniques.
Able to work with little direct supervision and communicate well with fellow employees and supervisors.
Ability to listen, be a team player, and interact well with others from diverse backgrounds.
Must be able to effectively and safely operate trucks, trailers, and ATVs, including hauling a camper.
Skill in planning, prioritizing, and managing time.
Skill in the use of GPS units and Google Drive.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Excellent physical condition and ability to perform under adverse climatic working conditions and difficult terrain are necessary for spotlighting and capturing cranes.
Weekend and extensive evening/ overnight work will be required.
Long and irregular work hours will be required.
The two (2) technicians will work as a team and without direct supervision for extended periods.
Successful applicants for employment must pass a background check before appointment.
Housing will be provided.
