Science and Logistics Specialist Horizons Unlimited is a science center a part of the Rowan-Salisbury School System that provides hands-on science field trips that drive student engagement and professional development to support science instruction from the field to the classroom. Reports to: Horizons Unlimited Director Purpose: To provide indoor and outdoor instruction that is STEM-centered, interactive, research-based, and standards-driven and to coordinate program logistics. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent interpersonal, presentation, organizational, communication, and leadership skills required Ability to collaborate with a team of passionate individuals working together to provide meaningful hands-on science instruction Ability to develop innovative and standards-aligned educational programs and activities required Ability to relate positively with the general public and interact effectively with teachers, students, and Horizons Unlimited staff members required Strong technology skills required: Google Suite, Apple, Canvas, Zoom, LMS, and be willing to learn proprietary software related to the planetarium. Ability to work evenings and weekends to accommodate special programming and events required CPR and First Aid Certification required Bus/CDL endorsement preferred Key Duties and Responsibilities: Align STEM and outdoor learning experiences with NC Essential Standards and Rowan-Salisbury Schools renewal district goals to enhance classroom and enrichment education Maintain inventory, clean, refurbish and store materials related to STEM and Outdoor Learning experiences Coordinate school scheduling for onsite field trips, outreach programs, and ongoing events Manage communication with participating schools and community groups to include Program Descriptions and Distribution, Curriculum Alignment, Scheduling Information, Database of Participants, and Online Support Coordinate with Planetarium Director to assist with planetarium shows and events Develop and teach interactive hands-on science lessons at Horizons Unlimited as needed (approximately 2-3 times per week) Assist with animal care and teach animal programs as needed Other duties as needed Term of Employment: 12-month position Special Conditions: Must be able to travel to other RSS Sites for Programming Obtain/Maintain NCEE Certification Pay Grade: NC State Teacher Scale
Qualifications: Degree, certification(s), or equivalent experience in providing hands-on science instruction Minimum 3 years formal/informal science education experience Experience with coordinating field trips and/or logistics Environmental Education background or NCEE Certification preferred
