The Department of Fish and Wildlife is seeking motivated individuals to work as Scientific Aids out of the Fortuna and Fort Bragg offices. These positions provide great opportunities to build and develop important skill sets in fisheries monitoring techniques, independent wildland travel and navigation, scientific data collection, and teamwork, all while enjoying the spectacular scenery and un-paralleled wildlife viewing opportunities. Primary job duties include:
• Monitoring adult salmonid populations through spawning ground surveys and DIDSON acoustic sonar camera (October through April).
• Monitoring juvenile salmonid populations by snorkel dive surveys, acoustic telemetry, electrofishing, and netting. Surveying aquatic and riparian habitat (May through September).
• Entry, analysis, and reporting of project data. Maintenance, inspection, and preparation of field gear, equipment, and vehicles (ongoing).
Possession of a valid driver license. and Either I Education: Equivalent to completion of two years of college with a minimum of 10 semester hours in biological or chemistry sciences.
One year of experience in surveying, studying or evaluating fish or wildlife populations, data habitats or users, or working in a chemistry laboratory.
