Position - Seasonal Field Technician/Lab Technician: This position will begin May 16th and end August 17th 2022. Housing is not provided, and the hired individuals will be based at the museum in Jackson, Mississippi. This position is hourly and will be paid $13.74 per hour (not to exceed 40 hours per week). Applicants will be expected to work Monday-Friday for the duration of the position. Position duties will primarily consist of field work focused on sampling for threatened and endangered fishes and mussels in Mississippi waters. This position requires the ability to carry 50lbs over rough terrain and a strong swimming ability. Much of the field work will involve wet-wading (being in the river up to shoulder depth pulling seines), and snorkel surveying/diving in turbid waters. Field work will be outside in the heat and regularly consist of 10–12hour days. This position will require overnight trips on a semi-weekly basis with hotel and meals provided during those trips. When not in the field, this position will process fish and mussel specimens at the museum and curate them into the collection. This position is a great opportunity for a current undergraduate student or a recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree that is interested in freshwater conservation to gain more experience and knowledge.
