SEASONAL AVIAN ECOLOGIST – North Carolina

Shared housing and a salary of $10.25/hour will be provided.
Duties will include: Assisting banders 4 days/wk, assisting graduate students (1-2 days/wk), re-sighting color banded warblers, assisting graduate students with projects, and significant data entry. Field days will often begin before dawn. We are looking for technicians who can be independent when needed but are able to work and live closely with co-workers. Eagerness to learn many aspects of field work related to avian ecology is essential as well as interest in an immersive experience.

The ability to identify most eastern birds by sight and sound required. Experience banding and extracting small passerines from mist nets is preferred. Position requires good color vision, ability to identify eastern birds by sight and sound, the ability to hike and work alone in rugged terrain and variable weather conditions, and an interest in avian ecology. Position also necessitates attention to detail, self-motivation, a positive attitude, and the ability to work long days in the field.
