- Orbis Environmental Consulting is seeking a Seasonal Bat Biologist to conduct threatened and endangered bat surveys during the Summer of 2023. Orbis is a respected environmental consulting company that values responsible resource management of important ecological and cultural resources to meet the needs of a modern world. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Identifying all eastern US bats to species level, • Conducting mist net surveys, radio-telemetry, and emergence counts, describing habitat at sampling sites, conducting acoustic surveys • Prepare and maintain field documentation including daily progress records, survey result and site inventory forms, photographs, GPS data, and other necessary materials
- Qualifications
- Basic Requirements: • Must have a current federal native threatened and endangered species recovery permit listing Myotis sodalis, Myotis septentrionalis, and Myotis grisescens at a minimum • Rabies vaccination • Willingness to work outdoors in a variety of locations and weather conditions • Prepared and willing to work long hours during prolonged fieldwork deployment (up to one month) during the bat maternity season • Able to work independently and interact positively with clients, project managers, land owners, technicians, and demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills • Valid driver’s license required • Must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship Preferred Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree or currently attending an undergraduate or graduate program • Experience with GIS software • Demonstrable supervisory experience • Experience collaborating with other environmental professionals in multi-disciplinary environmental survey – e.g., wetland, archaeology • Familiarity with acoustic surveys • Strong technical writing skills Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience.
