STATE OF WYOMING invites applications for the position of: ATTP99-07749-Seasonal Conservation Educator-Cheyenne SALARY: $12.13 - $12.13 Hourly LOCATION: Cheyenne OPENING DATE: 02/07/18 CLOSING DATE: Continuous DESCRIPTION AND FUNCTIONS: Open Until Filled GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Seasonal Conservation Educators will assist in outreach and education efforts by leading regional conservation day-camps throughout the State of Wyoming, two week-long overnight camps at the Whiskey Mountain Conservation Camp near Dubois, Wyoming, as well as assisting in various other conservation education programming providing the public with information around wildlife, fisheries, habitat management, ecology, hunting, fishing and other outdoor skills. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level. •Delivering high-quality, engaging programming to youth and family groups. •Assisting in development of lesson plans for programs, activities and events. •Maintaining a collection of education materials. •Assisting with instruction at hunter education field days. •Co-leading safe, engaging, and fun 3-day conservation day camp experiences for 5-6th grade students. •Co-leading safe, engaging, and fun 5-day overnight conservation camp experiences for 9th-10th grade students. •Helping to inform and educate the public about conservation and the Wyoming Game & Fish mission at various other events such as the Wyoming Outdoor Expo and 4H State Shoot event. •Assisting with routine clean up and set up of program areas. •Sharing a passion and knowledge of Wyoming's abundant wildlife, recreational opportunities, and rich natural history. QUALIFICATIONS: PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS: Working towards or have a bachelor's degree in education, wildlife/fisheries biology, biological sciences, environmental science, ecology, or related field. **Must have a valid drivers license. KNOWLEDGE: •Must be able to work well independently with minimal supervision, as well as ability to work well with others on a team. •Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work with all ages and backgrounds. •Must be able to responsibly maintain direct supervision of children while involved with activities such as fishing, archery, outdoor science investigations, and team builders. •Knowledge of Wyoming ecology and wildlife, in addition to experience with archery, fishing, orienteering, first aid, and other outdoor recreation skills. •Must have excellent strong organizational and leadership skills, enthusiasm, flexibility, and a passion for working with students. •Must demonstrate teaching skills and the ability to implement creative "hands on" teaching methods. •Experience working with students of all ages. •Experience safely supervising students in a school or camp environment. •Knowledge of a variety of outdoor skills including: orienteering, first aid, fishing, archery, wildlife ecology, and outdoor recreation. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: None - See "Preferences" NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: •Requires flexible schedule, including travel and long days, working evenings and weekends. •Must have the ability to work outdoors in varied terrain and weather conditions, and comfortable pulling trailers and operating 4WD vehicles. •Weekend and holiday work will be required. •Position requires extended stays (4 days) in a shared camper trailer and statewide travel. •Position requires CPR certification & background check (both provided by WGFD). •Requires a flexible, creative, positive attitude & exceptional communication skills. NOTES: •FLSA: Non-exempt •All new hires or rehires starting in a non-exempt position on or after January 1, 2018 are required to be paid hourly. •Duration of employment (tentative) May 7, 2018 through August 17, 2018 •Uniform and other necessary gear will be provided when in the field. •Department housing is not provided. •Please attach a cover letter to the online state application.
