Description
The incumbent serves as a Biological Science Technician for vegetation monitoring protocols in the National Park Service's Inventory and Monitoring program. Biological Science Technicians are responsible for conducting experiments regarding uplands (vegetation and soils), wetland ecological integrity, and wadeable streams in parks of the Rocky Mountain Inventory & Monitoring Program ( https://www.nps.gov/im/romn/index.htm). Please note: This position is being concurrently advertised along with the Greater Yellowstone Network position, so applicants will see two duty stations as options. The Rocky Mountain Network position is the Estes Park Duty Station. The major duties of Biological Science Technician position include, but are not limited to the following: -Collecting plant, soil, aquatics, and geomorphology data using established network monitoring protocols; -Accurately identifying vegetation to the species level in the field or in the office using standard floras; -Conducting fieldwork in remote backcountry settings and under difficult conditions in a safe and efficient manner; -Off-trail hiking to access remote monitoring sites; -Entering data and following quality assurance procedures to ensure accurate data transcription into established databases; -Reviewing datasheets to ensure the quality of data collection; -Maintaining field and camping equipment.
Qualifications
