Selected candidates will work with regional Natural Resource Ecologist across several Missouri State Parks in northeastern Missouri. Selected candidates will primarily assist with invasive plant control and fireline prep, but will have the opportunity to assist with other natural resource stewardship operations including prescribed fire and glade and woodland restoration. Crewmembers will build experience with various resource stewardship techniques including chainsaw operation, herbicide application, ORV operation, fireline installation, and tree girdling/felling. Technicians will have the opportunity to participate in botanical surveys and other monitoring projects as available.
18 years of age
Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions including heat and cold
Perform physical work, and lift up to 50 pounds
Must have ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license
A strong passion for and interest in natural resource stewardship
Ability/Experience to operate gas-powered equipment such as chainsaws, brush saws and water sprayer units or willingness to learn.
Experience with mechanical and chemical treatment of invasive species or willingness to learn
Experience with controlled burning and burn prep or willingness to learn
