- Barnstable Clean Water Coalition (BCWC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with a mission to restore and preserve clean water throughout Barnstable. Invasive Algae Interns are responsible for conducting surveys and collecting samples of the invasive marine algae Dasysiphonia japonica from local beaches and the Three Bays estuary. Duties include, but are not limited to: • Collect, identify, and analyze Dasysiphonia japonica samples and associated data from beaches located along Nantucket Sound and at sites in the Three Bays estuary. • Maintain sampling, monitoring and lab equipment. • Compile and enter survey data in electronic database. • Provide public with information on invasive algae species and local water quality issues. • Assist with other related projects. Interns must provide own housing and have reliable transportation. Weekly stipend offered along with mileage reimbursement per current IRS rate. Part-time, seasonal: June through August Schedule: Flexible, may include weekends, minimum 20 hours/week
- Qualifications
- Qualifications: • Must be 18 years or older. Preference given to applicants who have or are working towards an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in marine science, biology, ecology, environmental studies, or related field. • Knowledge of local coastal ecology, wildlife and habitats preferred. • Ability to work independently and in a team setting. • Comfortable communicating and interacting with public. • Ability to work outside in a variety of field conditions. • Ability to lift and carry 40 pounds.
