Description / Position Overview SEASONAL - Park Interpreter - Garden of the Gods (PT Guide/Interpreter) In this position, you will work in a variety of roles, including interpretation, environmental education, and supervising volunteers. This is a seasonal (at-will) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker's Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees' Retirement Association). Anticipated dates of employment will be mid-May through September. Normal work schedule will vary depending upon the needs of the department. Hours worked will be between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. daily and will include weekends. Total hours worked will not exceed 1,500 annually. Essential Job Functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform: Provide information and directions to park visitors Inform park visitors of park rules and regulations Create, organize, and/or administer interpretive programs; conduct guided nature walks Work with volunteer and community groups Complete incident reports and other routine documentation
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate: Knowledge of the local environment, including geology and ecology concepts Knowledge of environmental education and natural resources Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing Successful candidate will have Be at least 18 years of age Have college-level coursework in environmental studies, natural resources, park management, geology, biology, or a related field Ideal candidates will also have Experience working in a park, visitor center, or museum setting Experience creating and delivering interpretive programs Additional Information Work is performed outdoors with possible exposure to extreme weather conditions, dust, and pollen. This position requires the ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally; stand, sit, stoop, climb, and bend for extended periods; and hike up to six miles.
