The Joseph W. Jones Ecological Research Center invites applications for a temporary Seasonal Research Hourly II position in the Forest Entomology and Microbiology lab. This is a 3-month position beginning as early as March 2018. On-site housing is provided on a space-available basis. The Seasonal Research Hourly worker will assist in collecting insects, microbes and plants for several studies examining the functional roles and diversity of these organisms within the longleaf pine ecosystem at Ichauway. Time will be split between the field, where activities will include insect and plant collection, and the lab where activities will include preserving insect and plant specimens and isolating microbes. The worker will also be involved with data entry and other duties as required.
The 29,000 acre Jones Ecological Research Center is located approximately 30 miles south of Albany, Georgia. The Center’s research, education, and conservation programs focus on ecology and natural resource management. Job Requirements: Ability to conduct physical activity in the field under a variety of weather conditions, to conduct precise work under sterile conditions in the lab, to follow instructions with attention to detail, and work well both independently and within small groups. Some computer-related experience is required (MS Office, required), and familiarity or experience with Southeastern vegetation and plant, insect or microbial communities is desirable.
Minimum BS degree in botany, entomology, mycology, forestry, conservation biology, ecology, or related field.
