A successful applicant should expect to participate in a waterfowl spring migration study in the Prairie Pothole Region of Iowa. This temporary position will be stationed out of the Clear Lake DNR Fish and Wildlife Office to assist an Iowa State University graduate research project from mid- February to mid-May. Duties will include the following: • Survey spring migrating waterfowl throughout the Iowa Prairie Pothole Region. • Maintain game cameras throughout the survey season • Survey vegetation and other wetland characteristics • Basic data entry and organization
Applicants must have a strong understanding of basic wildlife ecology, outdoor skills and be physically capable of, and willing to work in the field. Experience identifying waterfowl from a distance and in the air, is highly desirable. Field work will occasionally occur under adverse weather conditions such as severe winter weather and highly variable spring weather. Successful applicants should have experience with or a willingness to learn proper use of equipment related to field work including: 4WD trucks, small boats, GPS Units, maps, hand tools, etc. Applicants should also be proficient with computer programs such as Microsoft Excel. Pay will be approximately $13/hour. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and allow their driving record to be screened upon hiring. Housing will be provided in Clear Lake, Iowa.
