The Arkansas Forest Resources Center at the University of Arkansas at Monticello is seeking a highly motivated seasonal technician to assist with graduate projects in southeast Arkansas from 11/15/2020-1/31/2021 with possibility of extension. The technician will have two sets of responsibilities: 1) collection, dissection, and blood draws of waterfowl and moist-soil plant seed identification, and 2) assist in the banding process of waterfowl and deployment of transmitters. Technicians will be provided with housing at White River NWR in St. Charles, AR and any necessary equipment. The applicants must be willing to work extended hours in adverse weather conditions and be physically able carry heavy equipment while wearing waders.
Required Qualifications: Applicants should possess a bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, wildlife management, or a related field. A successful applicant will have a positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, and a strong work ethic. A valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record is required. Desired Qualifications: Previous experience in hunting, handling, and banding of waterfowl is preferred. Experience operating ATVs and UTVs is also beneficial. Other desired skills include ability to identify waterfowl, rocket-net certification, and knowledge of moist-soil plants and seeds.
