Madison Audubon is hiring 1-3 full or part time Limited-Term Employees to join Goose Pond Sanctuary staff to collect and process seed for ongoing restorations in southern Wisconsin, as well as to perform other habitat restoration duties. Goose Pond Sanctuary is a collection of 730 acres of protected wetlands and restored tallgrass prairies located one mile south of Arlington and 17 miles north of Madison. It is a haven for birds, but also for rare plants, insects, and other wildlife. We encourage people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds to apply, however enthusiasm for ecosystem restoration is a must! The term of this position is September 6 - November 19, 2022, with some flexibility. Some collecting with volunteers on Saturday mornings may be required. JOB DUTIES: -70% Seed collection, seed processing -20% Habitat restoration. Work may include use of hand tools, power tools (brushcutter, chainsaw, etc.), herbicide, prescribed fire -5% Lead volunteer groups, assist on field trips (e.g., monarch tagging) -5% Biological monitoring
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : -Able to learn 80 species of plants -Enthusiastic about native plants and wildlife -Reasonable physical fitness required -Able to lift 20 pounds regularly and 40 pounds occasionally -Valid driver's license PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: -strong native plant identification skills -experience or certified in herbicide application -experience or certified in prescribed fire -experience leading small groups HOW TO APPLY: Application deadline to ensure consideration is Friday, August 15, 2022, however the application will be open until filled.
