Normandeau Associates, Inc., one of the nation’s largest science-based consulting firms, is seeking a full-time Senior Bat Ecologist to join our dedicated Bat Team in our Gainesville, FL office.
This position requires field experience with bats (e.g., acoustic monitoring, acoustic analysis, and mist-netting) and a working knowledge of bat behavior and ecology. Candidates should have a solid background in wildlife ecology, sampling techniques, field data collection, data analysis, and report writing. Experience conducting ecological assessments, threatened and endangered species surveys, application of relevant state and federal laws (ESA and NEPA), and familiarity with GIS are key qualification. Experience with echolocation call analysis and ecological statistical methods, such as GLMM and software packages such as R, is preferred. Candidates must have strong writing and interpersonal skills. Candidates must have project management expertise including developing budgets, writing proposals, interacting directly with clients, engaging with regulatory agency staff, and related skills.
Qualified candidates should have M.S. or Ph. D. in ecology, wildlife biology or related scientific discipline, including significant training and/or experience with bats. At least 3-5 years of professional experience is preferred.
Candidates must be self-motivated and self-managing and comfortable in a fast-paced work environment in which major priorities change on a daily basis due to evolving client expectations. Extended work hours are frequently required. Overnight travel to remote field locations is required to support projects, especially between March and October. Candidates must be able to comfortably lift at least 40 pounds. Candidates should be able to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship.
