This position provides oversight, work direction, technical assistance, and expertise relating to aquatic habitat management throughout South Dakota and coordinates staff input from three aquatic habitat wildlife biologists and many other department staff. Duties include overseeing preparation of habitat and access development project proposals, construction plans,and specifications and permits with the engineering division and private engineering consultants. This position serves as the main point of contact for the public for the aquatic habitat and access program in central SD and for statewide issues. Coordination of aquatic habitat outreach and engagement efforts and activities with the public, non-governmental organizations, other government agencies, lake associations, angling groups, landowners, and municipalities is a responsibility of this position
The ideal candidate would have a masters degree in fisheries management, a related field, or equivalent work experience and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills., They must have a desire to build effective teams to accomplish aquatic habitat and access projects,the ability to effectively network, strong organizational skills, and up-to-date knowledge of habitat improvement techniques currently being utilized in the fisheries profession.
