- Job Description Senior Biologist – California – Projects located central and northern California Established in 1999, Transcon Environmental, Inc., offers environmental consulting services throughout the United States. Our Corporate Office is based in Mesa, AZ and we have offices in Ferndale and Santa Rosa, California; Cedar City and Draper, Utah; and Rawlins, Wyoming. We are a steadily growing company with telecommuting opportunities employing over 200 employees throughout the United States. Our highly successful team of environmental planners, biologists and archaeologists provides environmental planning, permitting, and compliance as well as infrastructure siting, Class I and Class III studies, Historic Property Treatment Plans, and environmental construction management and monitoring. We offer our employees development opportunities, competitive wages, and benefits. We are seeking a qualified senior biologist to fulfill a desktop role, with options to perform fieldwork. We are seeking biologists that currently reside anywhere in central or northern California. Desktop duties include evaluating site-specific biological constraints, project coordination, writing, permitting, and more. Field work will primarily include nesting bird surveys, special status plant and wildlife surveys, construction monitoring, and riparian and other habitat assessments. Fieldwork will include both one-day and multiple-day assignments, with paid drive time (anywhere from 0-3 hours each way). Candidates applying for this position will be fully remote, working from home.
- Qualifications
- Skills and Requirements: B.S. degree in biology, ecology, natural resources, and/or a closely related discipline 10 years of experience in the environmental consulting industry or related environmental industry Strong writing, editing, and QA/QC skills Background in botany. Familiarity with special status plants and ability to use dichotomous key. Strong communication and team skills Experience with permitting work in California (NEPA, CEQA, CDFW LSAA/EPIMS, 401, 404, etc) biological writing, and/or land planning Experience with California special status species and associated regulations Ability to perform work duties independently and efficiently with short deadlines Highly organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, dependable, and trustworthy Ability to interact and coordinate with the public, landowners, construction and tree crews, as well as State, federal, and tribal agencies Experience in the following is preferred: Familiarity with typical utility operations and maintenance activities Familiarity with ESRI GIS applications (including desktop, ArcGIS, Collector, Survey123, etc.) Supervisory experience Experience in construction monitoring and surveying for nesting birds Botanical survey experience and familiarity using a dichotomous key to identify plant species is a plus Proficiency with standard field equipment and technology Possession of a Scientific Collecting or Federal 10a1a permit is a plus Excellent navigation skills and good driving record
