Responsibilities: Seeking an applicant to aide in ongoing Walleye and Rainbow Smelt research in Lake Oahe, South Dakota. Primary duties include Walleye trap netting & tagging. The applicant will supervise and assist with other research activities as needed. Applicant will be based in Brookings, SD, and work a non-standard schedule, including weekends, as field work requires.
Experience with supervising scientific data collection, motorized boat operation, trailering, and safety. Experience with fish netting, otolith extraction and aging preferred, but not required. The ability to work independently and supervise fisheries lab and field work is a must. Candidates should have good interpersonal skills, as angler contact is a major part of the job. Applicant must be able to lift 50lbs on a routine basis, a proficient swimmer, possess a valid drivers license, and have completed a bachelors in a fisheries-related discipline. M.S. or 2+ years experience preferred.
