Join a small crew surveying non-game stream fish in the upper Red River basin of Oklahoma and Texas. This job requires strenuous activities, long days working in often inclement weather (extreme heat and cold), extended camping trips and long drives to reach sample locations. Experience working in hot and cold environments and/or competing in endurance activities is preferred. We will conduct extensive and repeated seining surveys to estimate abundance of a species of conservation concern. We will measure aspects of the stream that may affect fish abundance and/or seining efficiency. There is possibility for tasks in the lab dissecting fish, processing and aging otoliths when weather does not permit outdoor sampling. I am looking for someone who can learn quickly, communicate effectively, work both independently and with a team. Most importantly I need someone who can maintain a positive attitude (and have fun!) throughout the field season. Applicant must have a drivers license and clean driving record. Camping is required so an enjoyment of the outdoors or experience with outdoor recreation is a plus. This position is short term, but full time (40hrs per week) starting ASAP - October 1st with possibility for extension. I will review and interview applications immediately and on a first come first serve basis. Local applicants preferred but not required. No housing provided when not in the field.
Preferred applicant will have experience identifying small cyprinid fishes, using a seine net and the ability to maintain attention to detail while in the field. Experience camping and working outdoors for extended periods is strongly preferred. The ability to communicate effectively, cooperate with a team and maintain a positive attitude is critical for this job. Must be able to relocate to Stillwater, OK or surrounding areas. Please Email CV and brief letter of interests describing why you are qualified for this position to ASAP.
