- Description
- Wildlands Network uses science-based approaches to study wildlife conservation across North America since 1991. We commonly use camera trapping, GPS tracking, roadkill surveys, and develop habitat and connectivity models to identify, understand, and develop policies to improve conservation for wildlife species. Wildlands Network is launching a long-term project in the Four Corners Region of Arizona and New Mexico to study solar-wildlife interactions. We are hiring a summer science intern to conduct field surveys, collect, enter and edit data, and generate summary analytics in support of this project. Principal responsibilities for the term-limited position will include deploying and testing survey protocols using trail cameras and other wildlife survey methods, processing camera trap data (entering data into spreadsheets/databases, backing up data, analyzing data), and surveying for pronghorn and other mammalian species in desert and grasslands ecosystems. The ideal applicant will already reside in the Four Corners region within an easy drive to Farmington, New Mexico. Apart from any travel for field work or working directly with the Senior Wildlife Biologist, the intern will be expected to work primarily in their own residence/home office. The position will pay $15/hour, with an expectation of a 40 hour work week. The science intern will be supervised by the Senior Wildlife Biologist for the Western Region, also based in Farmington. The position will run from June 1 to August 15 (exact dates open to negotiation). Please send a resume, cover letter, and the names and contact information for two references to Dr. Aaron Facka, aaron@wildlandsnetwork.org. No phone calls please, and be sure to put “science intern application” in the subject line of your email to receive full consideration. Also, please label any file attachments with your last name, for example SmithCoverLetter.pdf
