EXPERIENCED SONGBIRD BANDER(S) needed for Intermountain Bird Observatory (IBO) study of breeding fall songbird migration in southwestern Idaho (mid-July to mid-October 2018). Duties consist of mist-netting, banding, public outreach/demonstrations, and careful data entry/proofing. The study site, Lucky Peak (https://ibo.boisestate.edu/visit/), is an exciting place for songbird migration and among the best birding sites in the state. We average ~5,500 songbirds of up to ~60 species each fall and the site is also home to concurrent diurnal raptor and owl migration studies. Remote "housing" (comfortable camping) provided.
Qualifications of applicants should include: (1) proficiency with safe netting and banding/bird-handling procedures, (2) ability to identify western birds by sight and sound, (3) good communication skills, and (4) willingness to give your all. People with mist-net extraction/banding experience preferred - ideally certified by North American Banding Council or with a similar level of experience. However, enthusiasm, care for birds, quick learning, and an ability to work well with/get along with others are equally important criteria. Hands that stay warm in cold weather are a plus.
