The Cooperative Wildlife Research Lab at Southern Illinois University is hiring an experienced field technician for a project studying the impacts of raccoon removal on Blanding's turtles in northern Illinois during February- August 2022. Field duties will include setting up game cameras, performing raccoon necropsies, taking habitat measurements, and other related tasks. Office-related duties will include data entry and raccoon photo-tagging from game camera footage. Salary is $12/hour plus free housing
To be considered for this position, applicants must have pertinent experience and have or be working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Management, Biology, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or a related field. Candidates must also have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, strong communication skills, a strong work ethic, and be comfortable with working long, irregular hours in sometimes challenging weather conditions. Candidates must have a recent rabies vaccination or rabies booster to ensure sufficient titers. We expect the successful candidate to abide by Illinois law regarding COVID vaccination status (https://www.illinois.gov/government/executive-orders/executive-order.executive-order-number-22.2021.html). Housing also will require all occupants to be fully vaccinated for COVID and no pets allowed.
