- RES is accepting applications for a Stream Science Intern, based out of our Richmond, VA office. The mission: The Stream Scientist Intern will work with environmental and field personnel to perform all aspects of field work, assist with technical data entry and provide other administrative support. What your day-to-day might look like? 60% of your time, you will be in the field performing water quality sampling, stream gage installation, stream mitigation monitoring, stream geomorphic surveys, hydrologic analysis, BEHI/NBS assessments, 404/USM crediting assessments, benthic sampling and ID, and fish sampling and ID. 40% of your time, you will be performing data entry, data processing, and technical writing based on your fieldwork. Superior writing, communication, and computer skills (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and attention to detail are paramount! Pieces you will be responsible for include monitoring reports, stream and nutrient credit calculations, hydrologic analysis, assist with components for stream restoration design and permitting, and coordinating field staff. Please be advised that we perform these tasks come rain or come shine and working outside in harsh and adverse weather conditions (including both cold and hot environments) is part of the routine. You will also be walking long distances, bending, lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), and performing other physical activities. Occasionally, some of our projects require extensive travel with overnight stays.
- Qualifications
- We would like to talk to you if you have many of the following: BA/BS in an environmental science field such as, but not limited to, ecology, wetland science, aquatic biology, botany, wildlife biology, fisheries, soils, hydrology, etc What would make you stand out? Experience with GPS and/or various survey equipment Experience with GIS and/or CAD. Experience with Excel spreadsheet development and management.
