Description
SCA’s mission is to build the next generation of conservation leaders and inspire lifelong stewardship of the environment and communities by engaging young people in hands-on service to the land. Join one of 4 SCA Corps programs in New York State: Benefits: All members receive a biweekly living allowance, housing (or housing allowance), and health insurance. Members are eligible for an AmeriCorps Education Award after successful completion of service. Members will receive some or all of the following trainings/certifications such as Wilderness First Aid, Leave No Trace, ACA Canoe Training, SCA Trail Skills Training, Chainsaw/Rigging training, various Environmental Education and Interpretation Certifications, and much more! Hudson Valley Corps Program Dates: Jan – Nov and June – Oct, application review begins Sept/Feb Basic Requirements: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and must pass a background check For More Information: Contact Hudson Valley Corps staff at hudsonvalley@thesca.org At a Glance: 50 members serve at various sites across the Hudson Valley region. Internships span multiple conservation disciplines, including environmental education, GIS/GPS mapping, trail stewardship, invasive species management, and more. Members serve at sites from Saratoga Springs to New York City, working with state agencies such as DEC and OPRHP, land trusts, and nonprofit organizations. Excelsior Conservation Corps Program Dates: Jan – Nov, application review begins Sept Basic Requirements: Applicants must be from the state of NY, between the ages of 18 – 25 (Veteran applicants up to age 28), and must pass a background check For More Information: Contact Roger Dunn at rdunn@thesca.org At a Glance: 50 members work with the DEC, OPRHP and SEFC to complete environmental stewardship projects on public lands. Members serve in roving teams of 10, addressing high priority needs in areas such as open space management, natural resource stewardship, infrastructure and sustainability, recreation and access mapping, and environmental education & outreach. NYS Parks Corps Program Dates: Jan – Nov, application review begins Oct/Nov Basic Requirements: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and must pass a background check. For More Information: Contact Marlena at mvera-schockner@thesca.org At a Glance: 21 members serve at one of four Parks Regions – Alleghany, Central, Finger Lakes, and Thousand Islands. Internships span multiple conservation disciplines, including environmental education, trail stewardship, GIS/GPS mapping wildlife management, and more. Members gather for trainings several times throughout the 10-month term. Adirondack Corps Program Dates: May – Oct, application review begins Feb Basic Requirements: Applicants must be between the ages of 18 – 25 and must pass a background check For More Information: Contact Jeremy Burns at jburns@thesca.org At a Glance: 18 members share a residential community in the Adirondacks, and serve in teams of 5 in remote backcountry settings for up to 10 days at a time. Members work alongside DEC on projects such as trail construction, dry stone masonry, timber bridge construction, invasive plant removal, fire tower rehabilitation, and historic building restoration.
