Student Research Interns with Texas A&M AgriLife - Sonora Texas Duration: ~May 15 to August 15, 2023 The student interns at the Sonora Research Station will primarily assist the associate professor and research scientist in a variety of rangeland/prescribed fire/animal science projects. Duties may include a collection of rangeland vegetation monitoring data, helping to conduct management scale prescribed fires, care and feeding of livestock (sheep, goats, cattle) used in research trials, as well as a collection of animal performance and wildlife (white-tail deer, axis deer, etc…) - related data. The students will be based out of the Sonora Research Station, a 3,400 ac ranch located between Sonora and Rocksprings in the Texas Hill Country, at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center in San Angelo, and on various ranches in South and West Texas. The students will gain hands-on experience in both research and practical rangeland and ranch management. Hours per week may be variable. The persons in this position can expect at times to work long hours in remote locations and in a variety of weather conditions. There will be periodic day travel (~1/wk) to other research facilities (~2h drive) as required. Funding is available for 3 months at a wage of $12/h. Temporary housing will be provided on the Sonora Research Station as needed.
Qualifications
Must have the willingness to work and learn. The persons in this position can expect at times to work long hours in remote locations and in a variety of weather conditions. There will be periodic day travel (~1/wk) to other research facilities (~2h drive) as required.
