We anticipate hiring a student services contractor to assist with a remote sensing project to monitor waterfowl habitat and shorebird habitat along inland agricultural landscapes of the northern Gulf of Mexico coast using satellite imagery. This student contract position is open to a recent B.S.-level graduate. Current students with a B.S. degree are also eligible for this B.S.-level scope of work. The applicant must have graduated within the last year. This student services contractor will help with the following activities: (1) geospatial data compilation; (2) assess waterfowl and shorebird habitats via classification of satellite imagery; (3) data management; (4) geospatial data analysis; (5) figure and table preparation; and (6) verbal and written communication of results. In order to be eligible, applicants must have the status listed above and be eligible to work in the U.S. as a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident. The applicant should have an interest and experience in remote sensing and geospatial analyses.

The candidate will work under the guidance of a Geographer with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) to produce classifications of waterfowl and shorebird habitat on inland agricultural lands along the northern Gulf of Mexico coast from Texas to Alabama using satellite imagery. This student services contractor will help with various project activities including but not limited to: (1) inventorying and compiling satellite imagery and other geospatial data; (2) classification of Landsat satellite imagery; (3) geospatial data analysis; (4) data management; (5) data entry; (6) figure and table preparation; and (7) verbal and written communication of results.
In order to be eligible, applicants must have graduated with a degree within the past year in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Sciences, Geology, or a related field. The applicant should have experience in the following areas: (1) geospatial data compilation; (2) remote sensing-based classifications; (3) data management; (4) geospatial data analysis; (5) figure and table preparation; and (6) verbal and written communication of results. Applicants should have experience with of Esri ArcGIS (version 10.X is preferred) and ERDAS IMAGINE and classification of satellite imagery.
