- Join Our Team – Are you a full or half-time college student interested in a career in natural resources with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service? The San Luis NWR Complex, located in the Central Valley of California, is looking to fill a temporary Pathways student intern position (Student Trainee - Biological Sciences). This is a part-time position in which duties include assisting with a wide variety of biological, visitor services, administrative, and maintenance projects at our Refuge Complex. Biological projects the intern may assist with include: riparian brush rabbit trapping/vaccination, sandhill crane surveys, Aleutian Canada goose banding, mourning dove banding, camera trap surveys and invasive nutria monitoring. The intern will also work on data entry, visitor services projects, as well as trail and facilities maintenance. The start date is flexible depending on applicant schedules, from September-October, 2021. This position is typically a one-year appointment, with the potential to extend as long as the candidate continues to meet student eligibility requirements. Local candidates within commuting distance of Los Banos, CA highly preferred. There is no refuge housing available.

- Education: To be eligible for a Pathways Program internship, you must meet the following requirements: You must be a student accepted for enrollment or enrolled in a degree or certificate program on at least a half-time basis and in good standing, who will be continuing their education into the next semester, or have received a notice of acceptance for enrollment. (You are required to submit a copy of your transcript or notice of acceptance.) Qualifying certificate programs are post-high school programs equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study that is part of an accredited college-level, technical, trade, vocational, or business school curriculum. ***This position is anticipated to start the timeframe of September-October of 2021. If you will have completed or will be completing all degree requirements before January 2022 and do not plan on pursuing additional education, you will be found ineligible for this position.
