- Description
- The Kodiak Refuge hosts a small summer science camp (18-21 campers per week). We are looking for a camp director to help with camp logistics, communications and programs. The director will work closely with the Refuge Education Specialist and three college interns to implement sessions of camp on the theme of habitat. Camp curriculum is provided but can be enhanced by the crew. There will be two weeks of training and two weeks to prep material before camp begins. Work responsibilities will range from managing camp paperwork; organizing gear; preparing and implementing lessons; coordinating with community partners; helping lead and guide camp volunteers; providing camps on the Kodiak road-system as well as traveling by mail plane to remote communities; and may assist with other outreach efforts.
- Qualifications
- Requirements: -Valid driver’s license and legally permitted to work in the U.S. -Ability to pass a criminal background check. -Interest in educating youth and team teaching. -Respectfully communicate with campers, camper families, community members and co-workers. -Available May - August, 2023 Ability to: -Plan, coordinate and implement lesson plans, including organization of camp logistics and supplies. -Communicate effectively by email, phone and in public settings to groups of people. -Lead camp hikes on trails, tidepools, and beaches, at times on uneven or slippery terrain. Beneficial Backgrounds: Degree or degree-seeking in related fields such as: Environmental Science, Outdoor Recreation, Environmental Education, Biology, Public Land Management, or other.
