Graduate Assistantship (M.S.) available at Northern Michigan University to study summer ecology of wolves in the Greater Voyageurs Ecosystem, Minnesota. The selected candidate will work collaboratively on data collected by the Voyageurs Wolf Project, whose primary objective is to understand the predation behavior and reproductive ecology of wolves during the summer. The student’s thesis topic is flexible at this point and will depend, in part, on the student’s interest and skillset. Annual salary will be at least $10,800 plus tuition waiver and computer, with additional funding possible. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in field work in northern Minnesota for a portion of the summer 2022 field season but will primarily be responsible for analyses of existing data. The selected student will be co-advised by Dr. John Bruggink (Northern Michigan University) and Dr. Thomas Gable (Voyageurs Wolf Project/University of Minnesota).
Competitive candidates will have a Bachelor's in biology, ecology, or closely related field and an undergraduate GPA >3.0 along with field experience, great organizational abilities and quantitative skills, excellent oral and written communications skills, an ability to work with collaborators at different institutions (e.g., University of Minnesota), and an ability to work independently and as part of a team.
