Description
Adkins Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Supervisory Field Archaeologist to join us on a short-term project with the potential to grow into full-time. An ideal candidate should be currently permitted in the BLM Northwest and Dinetah Regions and would be able to start immediately. The position will be a combination of field work and remote office work. Our company is based in Durango, CO, but we have many employees in northern New Mexico. We will accept applicants from the Four Corners area. Responsibilities: • Conducts inventories for cultural resources for proposed projects on BLM, Navajo Nation, and Forest Service lands. • Compile and report information about the nature and extent of known cultural resources. • Adapt ground search strategies as determined by specific project requirements i.e., terrain, vegetation cover, and time frames. • Apply scientific methods to survey parcels of land to determine likely sites of archeological interest. • Prepare Cultural Resource Inventory reports and site forms. • Ensure that archeology work assignments are carried out in a safe and timely manner according to established standards and procedures. • Advise other employees on methods of cultural resource inventory and provide instructions to complete field work in a timely manner. • Can serve as a crew leader. Benefits: The company offers paid time off and an IRA plan after you have been with the company 1 year. The hourly range is $25 to $40 an hour. Pay will be based upon experience. Qualifications
Requirements: • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in archaeology or anthropology. • Preference to being permitted in the BLM Northwest Region and the Dinetah Region. • Accredited field school preferred but not required. • Experience identifying and documenting prehistoric and historic artifacts and features. • Ability to work and hike in hot or cold conditions, inclement weather, and remote locations. • At least 12 months of supervised experience in CRM pedestrian surveys. • Familiarity with Trimble GPS units (Terrasync). • Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record.
