- The Wildlife Ecology Laboratory at Tennessee State University in Nashville Tennessee is currently seeking a Master’s student to evaluate the survival, spatial ecology, and habitat use of translocated zoo-raised eastern hellbender salamanders. The ideal candidate will have an interest in evaluating the efficacy of translocation as a conservation strategy and an interest in eastern hellbender salamander conservation. Results from this study will be directly applicable to improving conservation and management strategies for eastern hellbender salamanders.
- Qualifications
- The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree in Biology, Wildlife Biology, Zoology, Environmental Sciences, Conservation Biology, or another closely related degree. The successful candidate would ideally be able to initiate the project starting in May 2023 and transition to a graduate student in August 2023. In addition, the ideal candidate must possess a passion for wildlife conservation research and be able to work in swift stream conditions. The applicant must also possess a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a 4wd vehicle. Prior experience working with salamanders and herpetofauna is a plus. Ideal candidates will have experience radiotelemetry, R, and ArcGIS/ArcPRO. Financial support (stipend and full tuition waiver) will be provided as a research assistantship and will be renewable annually contingent upon satisfactory performance. A positive attitude is a must.
