One TA position is available in Dr. Gary LaFleur's (gary.lafleur@nicholls.edu) lab at Nicholls State University on a grant funded by BOEM to create a searchable database on coastal communities. The student will be trained in coding coastal research literature to help create the database as the first objective. The student will propose a specific analytical question to resolve using the power of the archived database. Objectives might range from comparing biological effects of the BP oil spill across St Bernard, Plaquemine, Jefferson and Lafourche Parishes, to comparing sociological effects on the same parishes. This project may represent the sociological side of environmental biology which the Center for Bayou Studies, The Coastal Center, and BOEM all have a vested interest in supporting. Applicants should have a willingness to work on team projects, willingness to present research results at local and national meetings, and willingness to participate in service learning opportunities.
