A teaching assistantship in Dr. Allyse Ferrara's lab is available for the Fall 2021 semester for the Master of Science in Marine and Environmental Biology program at Nicholls State University. Research project associated with the position is listed below: Dr. Allyse Ferrara (allyse.ferrara@nicholls.edu): The successful applicant will conduct laboratory and field research on an NSF funded functional genomics and husbandry project using spotted gar. The graduate researcher will be responsible for brood stock collection and care and maintenance of brood stock, embryos and juveniles in laboratory and outdoor facilities. With committee guidance, a graduate-level thesis project will be developed to improve embryo and juvenile production of spotted gar. Applicants must have field experience including trailering, towing and operating small boats. Previous experience working with fishes is highly desirable. Teaching Assistantships include a tuition waiver and stipend of $4,800 per semester (total of $9,600 per academic year). In addition to the 8 month teaching assistant stipend, four months of summer and winter salary are available for the graduate assistant.
