Offered by: Texas A&M Agrilife Research @ Vernon, TX Lab supervisor: Dr. Nuria Gomez-Casanovas Research fields: regenerative farming, environmental sustainability, biogeochemistry DESCRIPTION The Gomez-Casanovas Lab seeks a highly motivated full-time Technician II with interests in improving the environmental and ecological sustainability of agricultural land. Responsibilities will include evaluating, selecting, and applying state-of-the-art scientific and engineering techniques and methods used in research both in the field and laboratory. The Lab combines novel lab, field and modeling experiments in a holistic way to advance science at the nexus of Food, Energy and Environmental Security. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team with collaborations with leading experts in more than 20 institutions across the US and Europe, and contribute to find answers to one of today’s grand challenges: How can we sustainably meet the demand for plant biomass to provide sufficient food, feed and energy with an increasing global population of 11 billion people while improving the resilience and sustainability of agricultural and managed land? RESPONSIBILITIES -Independently pursues an assigned series of processes, procedures, or area of research in accordance with general approved plans and procedures -Plans and executes procedures and work details -Collects, collates, and stores samples -Evaluates and analyzes results -Constructs, modifies, adapts, assembles, and operates scientific and laboratory procedures and equipment -Uses computer equipment for controlling equipment and compiling data -Makes and records observations and measurements -Summarizes and evaluates data for scientific materials requiring academic knowledge -Researches and catalogs reference materials that require understanding of subject matter theory -Plans and supervises technical operations -Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE -Bachelor's degree in a related field or any equivalent combination of training and experience. -Two years of related experience. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES -Knowledge of laboratory equipment, scientific applications, and computer equipment. -Ensure attention to detail. -Able to multitask and work cooperatively with others. -Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
