Summary: Oversee the operations of Nature Center, including environmental education, retail sales and inventory, dispersing hiking/biking information to guests, as well as the following duties. Essential Responsibilities: Provide environmental information (wildlife, geology, vegetation, history, climate, local issues, etc.) to guests visiting and enjoying displays at the St. Sophia Nature Center. Promote Leave No Trace wilderness ethics and offer local hiking and biking information and maps. Educate children and children’s summer camp groups visiting Center on environmental topics. Maintain cleanliness and organization within Center. Perform opening and closing duties regularly. Must maintain a clean, professional appearance and wear uniform and nametag provided. Possesses an understanding of services available and be proactive in generating sales of these services. Follow procedures closely while having the ability to make confidant and informed decisions in the absence of a manager with the welfare of the company and the guest in mind. Understand how to operate RTP for all transactions. Should be able to troubleshoot most issues regarding transactions. Stay up to date with on-mountain hiking/biking information and be able to inform guests accordingly Keep track of product inventory and order more supplies accordingly Provide a high level of guest service and guest interaction. Support TSG’s vision, mission, and goals. Adhere to all TSG policies and procedures listed in the employee handbook. Understand and apply the Skier Responsibility Code and Colorado Skier Safety Act. Other duties may be assigned. ***employee housing available****
Knowledge of local ecosystems, wildlife, geology, climate, history, and vegetation. Ability to provide information in a professional manner. Familiarity of hiking and biking trails around ski area, Mountain Village, and Telluride. Ability to provide education to all ages including children. Friendly, approachable and mature demeanor and attitude. Professionalism in the handling of animals. Must have at least 1 year experience working in a related field. Internet/Email skills. Be able to use a radio. Education and Formal Training: Related College Degree. Experience providing environmental interpretation. Experience working with children.
