The Southern Southeast Regional Aquaculture Association (SSRAA) has an opening for 3 Temporary Fish Culturist at the Neets Bay Hatchery. The position has a start date of January 4 and ends at the end of October. These 3 employees will have the month of June off
The Neets Bay Hatchery is a large, remote, three species salmon hatchery located approximately 30 air miles north of Ketchikan, Alaska. There are approximately 160 million Chum, 4.3 million Coho, and 360,000 Chinook salmon cultured at the Neets Bay facility.
Temporary Fish Culturists will perform all duties associated with saltwater/freshwater rearing, outmigration of Chum fry, Coho and Chinook smolt, all aspects of salmon egg incubation, and Chum Salmon spawning. Other duties will include site cleanup and maintenance. Applicants must be capable of lifting 50lbs repeatedly and be tolerant of foul weather and long work day/weeks.
The position requires living on site in a furnished bunkhouse. Provided benefits include but are not limited to: weekly mail and supply flights, satellite internet, satellite tv, and groceries.
Recreational opportunities include hiking, boating, and fishing as time allows.
