Duties and Responsibilities
The Naturalist conducts interpretive programs both on- and off-site on a wide range of natural history and conservation topics for a diverse audience of MDC stakeholders. Audiences include school groups and public groups of all ages, Scouts, civic groups, and senior citizens. The Naturalist answers public inquiries, works with volunteers, and assists in the planning, organization, and implementation of programs and special events. They also assist with program prop maintenance, interpretive displays, and live animal care. Performs other duties as required.
This is a 1600-hour position. The selected individual can expect an average of 32 hours per week, which may vary with seasonal programs. The rate of pay is $17.16/hour.
Bachelor’s degree in Interpretation, Biological Sciences, Education, or related subjects, with one year of interpretation and/or teaching experience. National Association for Interpretation certification is desired.
The selected individual must have good communication skills, a flexible schedule (be able to present weekday, evening, and weekend programs), as well as be able to work in a variety of weather conditions, year- round.
