1. A considerable amount of time will be involved with prescribed burning for wildlife and forestry. 2. Preparing units and equipment for prescribed burning. 3. Operation of farm equipment, planting and maintaining wildlife food plots. 4. Performing forest inventory with the use of hand-held data loggers and marking timber for timber sales. 5. Treating non-native invasive plants with herbicides. 6. Infrastructural duties will include but not limited to maintenance of roads, game land boundary, parking areas, and building facilities. 7. Red-cockaded woodpecker habitat maintenance. May involve application of herbicides, running chain saws, and working with hand tools. 8. Work to enhance wildlife populations through cultural practices to restore or improve native habitat. 9. Assistance to agency programs conducting various wildlife and fishery surveys as designated by the Wildlife Resources Commission. 10. Duties include maintenance of records, assisting with wildlife surveys, and general maintenance of equipment and facilities while under the direction of the Wildlife Forest Manager.
• Working knowledge of the practical techniques and procedures involved with wildlife management, including forest management and agricultural practices. • Working knowledge of wildlife habitats and species requirements. • Ability to operate and maintain equipment and vehicles used in wildlife management such as farm tractors, heavy equipment, UTV’s/ATV’s, fire pumper units, chainsaws, power hand tools, etc. • Ability to collect and accurately analyze field data and prepare written reports. • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with crew members, other staff, cooperating agencies and organizations, and the general public. • Ability to utilize personal computers with MS Office, e-mail, and other software to complete a variety of job assignments. • Ability to operate GPS units and GIS software. • Must have a valid drivers license and will need personal transportation to and from the job. • Preferred Minimum Associate Degree in Wildlife/Fisheries or Forest Management from an appropriately accredited institution.
