The School of Natural Resources (SNR) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR) is seeking applicants for a tenure-track position in Forestry at the rank or Assistant or Associate Professor. This 9-month position shall have appointments in research (60%) and teaching (40%).
The successful candidate for this position is expected to develop a diverse and inclusive high-impact, internationally recognized research and teaching program in the management and ecology of agroforestry, forests, or urban forests of the Great Plains consistent with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln land-grant mission. Possible applied research areas include: 1) woody plant ecosystems in rural, urban, or riparian landscapes; 2) ecology and management of urban forests; 3) the use of agroforestry practices in sustainable agricultural landscapes via riparian buffers, silvopastoral systems, shelterbelts, or other practices; 4) environmental stresses such as insects, diseases, drought, and/or climate change to forested ecosystems; or 5) forest bioproducts.
The incumbent will collaborate with faculty and staff members in SNR, the Nebraska Forest Service (NFS) and other units in the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR). The incumbent will also work with partners such as the USDA National Agroforestry Center, Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, the International Society of Arboriculture, and other stakeholders, agencies and/or industry partners to establish disciplinary and transdisciplinary collaborations including effective integration with research groups and educational programming; obtain and leverage external and internal support (grants, fee revenue, etc.) for research and teaching activities; mentor graduate students; publish in peer-reviewed journals, and participate in scientific meetings and other appropriate professional activities.
The incumbent will be expected to average 0.40 instructional FTE as determined by the CASNR Academic Appointment Guidelines, and to contribute to IANR’s Regional and Community Forestry undergraduate program and coordinate and/or assist forestry-related research on IANR’s forestry properties. Courses to be taught or developed may include agroforestry, forest ecology, forest management, forest measurement, habitat management, silviculture, urban ecology, urban forest governance, or natural resources policy. Specific course assignments may be changed over time based on the needs of SNR.
In addition to the above-described duties, the individual will be expected to accept committee assignments, reporting responsibilities, and other special ad hoc assignments as requested at the administrative unit, college/division, institute, and/or university level.

• Ph.D. in forestry or natural resource related disciplines at time of assumption of position
• Evidence of research experience in forestry, or a natural resource discipline
• Evidence of publication in academic journals, technical reports, and/or industry publications
• Evidence of instruction in undergraduate or graduate teaching, extension, and/or via professional conferences or workshops
• Ph.D. with a focus in agroforestry, forestry, or urban forestry
• Primary researcher in one or more of the five possible research areas
• Primary instructor in forestry and/or natural resource related courses at undergraduate or graduate level
• Evidence of work with diverse or underrepresented communities or groups
