Description
The McMurry University Department of Biology is seeking applications for a tenure track faculty position focused broadly on genetics. The position is focused on excellent college teaching, with the desire and ability to direct undergraduates in productive capstone research projects involving genetic techniques. Teaching responsibilities will focus on Genetics, Human Genetics, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, and upper-level elective courses in the interest area of the successful candidate. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to offer courses supporting the Biology, Chemistry, and Human Health Science departments. Undergraduate research is a high priority at McMurry University, as we promote the use of course-based undergraduate research experiences and expect our faculty to engage students in research and scholarly pursuits. Thus, the successful candidate will be able to clearly demonstrate how they will engage undergraduate students in authentic research either inside or outside the classroom. The Department of Biology is housed within the Division of Science and Mathematics, encompassing the departments of Biology, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics. In addition to this position, the Department of Biology has six faculty specializing in botany, invertebrate biology, microbiology, sustainability, and vertebrate biology. The department offers BS degrees in Biology (animals, plants, environment, ecology), Biomedical Science (human biology, microbes, molecular biology, health career preparation), Life Sciences (generalist and teacher preparation), Environmental Science (Earth science, water quality, conservation biology), and Sustainability and Renewable Resources (pollution, policy, sustainability). The successful candidate will embrace an interdisciplinary approach to their teaching and scholarship, and can demonstrate creativity, innovation, flexibility, and adaptability in research, curriculum development, and implementation of a variety of instructional modes. Teach a full-time course load in the fall and spring semesters of up to 15 contact hours, provide service through academic advising and committee work, engage in ongoing professional development, and conduct research commensurate with a teaching focused undergraduate institution. Some of the courses taught may include Genetics, Human Genetics, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, and work with students on a Research Team. Qualifications
Ph.D. in Biology with a focus on Genetics or other closely related discipline (ABD status considered).
