Terrestrial Biologist Specialist (R18-061)
Support the implementation of environmental compliance requirements for the operation of PGE facilities. This person will provide technical and biological assistance on wildlife, wildlife habitat, plant community, and other terrestrial resource matters to support company operations and environmental compliance. The position will support terrestrial resource requirements at all PGE generation facilities including but not limited to Pelton Round Butte Hydroelectric Project, Biglow and Tucannon Wind Farms; Boardman Coal Plant, and Carty and Coyote Springs natural gas generation projects.
You will support our journey by:
Assist with habitat protection/enhancement/maintenance activities on PGE wildlife habitat lands, including noxious weed control, invasive juniper treatments, fence repair/replacement/removal, guzzler maintenance and improvements, seedings and plantings of habitat lands, and kiosk maintenance.
Perform habitat inspections on various habitat improvement/enhancement projects including road closures, seedings, plantings, weed treatments, post fire inspections, vegetation assessments and trespass documentation.
Perform vegetation monitoring of habitat lands using a variety of techniques including nested frequency transects, line intercept, and photo points.
Conduct wildlife monitoring including raptor surveys (both aerially and on the ground),Washington ground squirrel surveys, bat surveys, breeding bird surveys, amphibian surveys, threatened/endangered/sensitive plant surveys, waterfowl counts, duck and goose brood counts, bird nest-box productivity monitoring.
Enter data into spreadsheets and databases and GIS/GPS programs. Conduct quality checks and basic calculations. Summarize data.
Assist in preparation of reports and studies.
Assist biologists with public outreach, which may include public interactions, and providing trainings to PGE employees and contractors.
You will bring the following skills to our team:
Mammal, bird, reptile, and amphibian identification experience (in hand, visual and auditory).
Problem wildlife intervention experience.
Confidence to safely work alone in remote locations.
Good working knowledge of various vegetation and wildlife sampling techniques.
Basic knowledge of environmental regulation
Working knowledge of office computer applications, including MS Word, Excel, and Access.
Basic knowledge of GIS software and tools
Possess or have the ability to obtain an Oregon Boater Education card.
Possess or have the ability to obtain a current ATV certification from the State of Oregon.
Possess or have the ability to obtain an Oregon Pesticide Applicator License.
Knowledge of utility system regulations, including Oregon Public Utility requirements
A Bachelor’s Degree in Terrestrial Biology or closely related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. At least one year of wildlife experience. Valid driver’s license and proven safe driving record is required.
