DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The TFW Technician III will work under the supervision of the TFW Program Manager to implement varying restoration, fisheries, and wildlife grants. The Tech III will supervise one permanent technician and will be crew lead for seasonal technicians. This position will be responsible for collecting, managing, analyzing, and reporting on data collected in the field, and from other sources. This will require the use of GIS software, as well as Microsoft word and excel. The Tech III will also review forest practice activities, stream typing, and hydraulic projects within the Quileute Tribe’s usual and accustom area (U&A). The applicant must have working knowledge of Forest and Fish rules, and current logging practices; and must be able to professionally represent the Tribe at meetings in an office or field setting. The technician will be expected to participate in various training opportunities to improve their skills and knowledge in all areas of their duties and responsibilities. Technician must also be willing to perform a variety of other tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION: • Applicant must be able to obtain an aquatic pesticide license before June 2019, if they do not already possess one. • Must have at least basic GIS and GPS skillsets, and be able to create maps and manage data in the program. • Must be familiar with Microsoft word and excel. • Must be able to read maps and navigate in heavily forested areas. • Applicant must be physically able to pack a 40 lb backpack sprayer. • Due to the diversity in grants, applicant must be able to identify fish species at all life stages, native and non-native plant species, and wildlife. • Must have working knowledge of Forest and Fish rules, and current logging practices. • Must have experience using boats and motors, ATV’s, chainsaws, and other power tools. • Must be willing to work alone or as crew lead in the field, often times in adverse, wet conditions. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: This position will supervise one permanent technician and all seasonal technicians hired under the TFW program. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Experience with WDNR stream typing protocol and electro fishing tools. • WDNR training courses in bank full width, channel migration zones, unstable slopes, or wetlands. • Fish passage culvert assessment experience. • Advanced GIS training/experience. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: • A bachelor’s degree in natural resources or • AA with two years of natural resource work experience. SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED: • Applicant must be able to obtain an aquatic pesticide license before June 2019, if they do not already possess one. • A valid Washington State driver’s license.
